About Kate's Creations
Hi, I am Kate! Kate's Creations is a small press on nail business created by me. All nails are handmade and HEMA free.
What is HEMA? and why I don't use it
HEMA stands for 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and is a common ingredient used in curable nail products. HEMA is an ingredient that can help with adhesion, durability, fluidity, etc. In fact it is so good at adhesion it is commonly found in dental adhesion materials or bone glue. So, if this material has so many good qualities why is Kate’s Creations a proudly HEMA free brand. It is because HEMA can become dangerous! HEMA can be dangerous in many forms so I avoid it entirely. Uncured gel can be quite dangerous with any product but especially with HEMA. Since HEMA has polymers before cured it can conveniently seep into your skin and bloodstream and make your body develop allergies, even if you have never had any allergies in your life. In contact with skin it can cause rashes, eczema, inflammation, and more painful consequences of HEMA. This can affect both the clients or the nail techs so everyone needs to be careful if HEMA is present. That’s why I decided to keep my brand HEMA free. I strictly use one brand of polish that keeps all of their products HEMA free and is mindful of what's inside, that brand is Light Elegance.
